Police chase of drunk driver ends in serious crash

A neighborhood in Charlotte is breathing a sigh of relief this week after a high speed chase ended in many people's front yards. Although no one in the neighborhood was injured, some people are saying that had the circumstances been any different, there could have been some serious injuries as a result.

According to police, troopers began following the female driver along Independence Boulevard. Swerving and excessive speeding indicated that she was likely intoxicated, but when police attempted to pull her over she continued driving at speeds in excess of 70 mph.

The chase through Charlotte finally ended when the woman appeared to have lost control of her vehicle, slamming violently into a pole that supplied power to the neighborhood. The force of the impact apparently was enough to take out power to several homes on the block, but many people say that it's lucky the woman didn't hit another person instead of the pole.

The woman was taken to a hospital for her injuries where police said that they would question her and more than likely press charges against her as well.

Although it's fortunate that no one else was injured in this drunk driving accident, the circumstances could have been quite different. If the accident hadn't happened in the early morning hours as it had, more people could have been present in the neighborhood when her car hit the pole. Not only could she have hit a person in the process but falling power lines could have also created a hazard for people nearby as well-an accident many people in the neighborhood are grateful they were not a part of.
