When we hear about car accidents on the news or read about them on the internet most people feel safe knowing that it didn’t happen in their town. Many residents in Dunn will not be able to say that anytime soon though; not after a two-car crash near their town ended in injury.
The car accident occurred just before 5 pm when a car driven by a 23-year-old woman collided with a van being driven by a 16-year-old boy. Police say that the van was stopped at a stop sign behind a truck just prior to the accident. But instead of stopping at the sign when the truck in front pulled out into traffic, police say the teen driver failed to yield right-of-way and proceeded to pull onto Highway 27. The 23-year-old woman travelling westbound along the highway then collided with the van, causing it to rollover.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, the van had rolled back onto its wheels but the two occupants, the 16-year-old driver and his female passenger were badly injured. They were rushed to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries. The age of the passenger has not been released at this time, though police have reported that she was pregnant at the time of the accident. The 23-year-old woman in the other vehicle was also take to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
When one vehicle fails to yield the right-of-way to another vehicle or fails to obey traffic signs, accidents such as this can happen. And although this may seem like common sense knowledge, car crash victims are brought to emergency rooms every month as a result of another driver’s negligence.
