Woman dies after car crash in North Carolina

A 60-year-old woman died after she was involved in a car crash in Charlotte, North Carolina. Two other people were seriously injured as a result of the crash. The 60-year-old woman was a passenger in a car that was hit almost head-on by another car that reportedly crossed the center line of the road. The woman's 70-year-old husband, who was driving the car, as well as the 19-year-old driver of the other car were seriously injured.

Some designated drivers in North Carolina may be drunk drivers

Choosing a designated driver can seem like a good idea, but studies have shown that the method of choosing one is not. Often designated drivers are chosen because they are the least intoxicated member of the group or simply because they have proven themselves to be successful at driving drunk in the past. In fact, 35 percent of them have a BAC sufficient to impair their driving. These are the findings of a recent University of Florida study after breath testing and interviewing more than 1000 customers of bars and restaurants in a Southeastern college town.

Motorcycle accident in Shallotte leaves rider with injuries

A motorcyclist in Brunswick County considers himself lucky to be alive this week after his bike collided with a flat-bed trailer. Although he was seriously injured in the accident, it is believed that his injuries are not life threatening and he will make a full recovery. It's a story that highlights the importance of motorcycle safety across the state and about the dangers these riders face every time they drive on North Carolina roads.

Driver fatigue cause of fatal truck accident in North Carolina

The early morning hours can be both a blessing and a curse for drivers on North Carolina's roadways.  While there are fewer vehicles on the roads, the likelihood of coming across a drunk or fatigued driver increases dramatically.  It's a grim fact Smithfield residents were reminded of this month after a 47-year-old man was killed in a tractor-trailer crash along Interstate 95 on the first day of June.
