A North Carolina man who may have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run admitted that a damaged vehicle belonged to him but refused to answer further inquiries. According to the report, the fatal car accident resulted in the death of one 18-year-old woman and caused severe injuries to a second 18-year-old woman.
The death and serious injury occurred after the two teenagers were attempting to cross the street when they were hit by a vehicle matching the accused man’s car. The vehicle allegedly had the green light but nevertheless failed to stop after the accident occurred.
The man’s vehicle had heavy front-end damage and damage to the windshield. The officers returned with search warrants that they used to obtain blood samples from the accused. Officers also seized the vehicle’s event data recorder to discover the speed of the car when the accident occurred, whether he used the brakes and if he was using his seat belt. His mobile phone was also seized.
When the scene was investigated, officers recovered pieces of plastic from the grill and pieces of the windshield. The man was ultimately charged with two felony counts of hit and run that resulted in serious injury or death. He has a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated.
