North Carolina accident kills 1 teen, injures 7 others

On Sept. 14 at around 1:35 a.m., a 17-year-old driving a pickup truck hit a ditch on Highway 130 in Supply. Three teens were riding in the bed of the truck, and the driver had four other teens inside of the vehicle with him. According to reports, officials transported the driver and all passengers to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

One 17-year-old passenger who was riding in the bed of the truck died of his injuries at the hospital. The crash also critically injured one of the teens and seriously injured the rest, including the driver.

All three passengers in the bed of the truck were at least 16 years old at the time of the accident, which is the minimum age to ride in the bed of a truck in North Carolina without adult accompaniment. Officials are investigating the accident, but they say that alcohol was not involved.

In some fatal car accidents, the close relatives of the deceased might be entitled to compensation for their loss. Damages of this nature typically include funeral costs and medical bills for any time spent at the hospital as a result of the accident. Compensation may come from the insurance company of the party responsible for the accident.

In car accidents, a driver may be responsible for accident injuries if they demonstrated negligence on the road or failed to maintain safe standards with their vehicle. If, however, a malfunctioning car part is believed to have contributed to the accident, that part or vehicle's manufacturer may also be liable for damages.
