North Carolina car accidents: 1 killed, 1 injured in crash

On Behalf of | Feb 9, 2016 | Car Accidents |

There are millions of safe drivers on the roadways. These drivers follow posted speed limits and obey traffic signals. Unfortunately, even the safest drivers in North Carolina cannot avoid car accidents caused by others. For example, police have reported that a man was killed after a driver allegedly failed to maintain his lane.

Police reports indicate that a 79-year-old  man was headed north on a North Carolina roadway one evening in early February. An early investigation claims that the man left his lane, striking a southbound vehicle. The first vehicle is then said to have struck a third car head-on.

The 54-year-old driver of the second vehicle was uninjured. The driver of the first vehicle was transported to the hospital but is expected to survive. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old male driver of the third vehicle passed away as a result of injuries he suffered in the collision. The investigation into the incident is likely ongoing.

Unfortunately, fatal car accidents are often caused by drivers who experience a momentary lapse of attention; even something that seems minor can cause an accident that will change the lives of many instantaneously. While the family of a deceased victim copes emotionally with their loss, they must also deal with the financial ramifications. Often grieving families find that funeral expenses and the unexpected loss of wages can leave them in a precarious financial situation. Many in North Carolina who have found themselves in a similar situation have filed a lawsuit in a civil court. Many who have proved that their loss was caused by another’s negligence were awarded damages that allowed them to better handle the financial ramifications of their loss.
