Charges pending in North Carolina fatal accident

A highway in North Carolina became a tragic scene in a recent collision involving a commercial bus and an automobile. The fatal accident took one life and sent multiple other individuals to the area trauma and medical units for emergency care. Charges are reportedly pending in the case.

In the early hours just before dawn on a recent Sunday, Interstate 95 became the scene of the fatal crash. A bus, driven by a 23-year-old man, was carrying at least 53 passengers. Reports indicate that the driver fell asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle. The bus is said to have crashed through a guardrail and median, careening into oncoming traffic.

A car was unable to avoid a collision, though the driver reportedly swerved in an attempt to avert an accident. The driver of the bus and one of the passengers in the car were ejected from their vehicles. A woman who was in the car died in the crash. Two children, ages 12 and 13, plus one other person were taken to a trauma center for care.

One of the two children was reported to have undergone emergency surgery. Reportedly, 53 people who were passengers on the bus were also taken to area facilities for care in the aftermath of the accident. The driver of the bus stands to face criminal charges in the incident. In North Carolina, anyone who has been injured in a fatal accident caused by the negligence of another party is able to pursue legal action against the party deemed responsible in the crash.
