Two men in their early 20s were involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident in Jan. 2015 on a North Carolina road. The fatal car accident resulted in the loss of one life. No other person is reported to have suffered any injury in the crash.

A 21-year-old male, whom police say was traveling approximately 13 mph over the posted speed limit in the area, drove his vehicle to the left of the center line of traffic. In doing so, his car struck another vehicle, also driven by a 21-year-old male who was a local college student. Sadly, the student suffered injuries upon impact in the collision that resulted in his immediate death.

A police officer who investigated the case stated that neither driver was impaired in any way at the time of the accident. He also said that the young man who was deemed responsible for causing the crash was not using a cell phone, nor was he texting while driving. The officer said that the man was charged with a misdemeanor death by vehicle in the incident. It is not known why the man’s vehicle veered across the center line, moments before the collision.

The District Attorney said that the tragic fatal car accident is evidence of what can happen when a driver is reckless or distracted behind the wheel. In North Carolina, when an accident victim succumbs to his or her injuries, an immediate family member is able to file a legal claim in a civil court on behalf of his or her deceased loved one. In a successfully litigated case, the court can award compensation that can be used to help pay funeral costs or alleviate some of the burden of other monetary losses that might be associated with the accident.
