Fatal car accident brings tragedy to North Carolina roadway

An incident involving two motor vehicles occurred on a recent Monday in North Carolina. The fatal car accident left a tragedy in its wake. Alcohol consumption was suspected to be a leading factor in the tragic collision that might otherwise have been prevented.

It was approximately 2 a.m. when the accident took place. An 18-year-old motorist was apparently traveling in a southbound direction when his vehicle collided with another car that was headed north. A 35-year-old man was behind the wheel of the other car. Both vehicle occupants were immediately transported to a hospital in the area for emergency treatment.

Sadly, the 35-year-old did not survive his injuries. The teenager was listed as having suffered serious injuries that were not life-threatening. The 18-year-old now faces charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while drinking alcohol under the legal age of 21. Officials have stated that further charges are pending in the case.

A fatal car accident is always a tragic occurrence. Immediate family members who have suffered the untimely death of a loved one due to another driver's negligence are protected under North Carolina law with the right to file a legal claim against the party or parties believed responsible in court. Doing so allows them to seek compensation for damages related to the accident. The proceeds of a monetary judgment entered by the court in a successfully litigated case are often used to help pay funeral costs, medical bills from treatment that was rendered before death and other financial losses associated with the incident that resulted in the death of a loved one.
