North Carolina police puruse vehicle that ends up in car accident

On Behalf of | Dec 2, 2015 | Car Accidents |

In the line of duty, North Carolina police officers sometimes find the need to pursue a vehicle in traffic. Not long after noon on a recent Tuesday, such was the case when Eden officers were called to assist the sheriff’s department in pursuit of a car on Highway 14. Officers claim that, upon locating the vehicle, the driver sped from the scene and later became involved in car accident.

When authorities came upon the vehicle again, it had apparently been involved in a head-on collision. The 49-year-old driver of the car was taken into custody at the scene. It was reported that he was transported to a nearby hospital some time later.

A 39-year-old vehicle passenger suffered injuries in the crash and was also taken to a hospital for treatment. In addition, one other person involved in the crash was treated at the hospital, but no details regarding the extent of injury was provided. The highway was closed for several hours in the aftermath of the crash.

Authorities say that the man in custody was wanted on several felony charges. The car he was driving had previously been reported as a stolen vehicle. When a motorist acts with negligence or recklessness behind the wheel in North Carolina, anyone seriously injured in a resulting car accident may be entitled to pursue legal action against the party deemed responsible. Depending upon the severity of a victim’s injuries, he or she may face significant financial debt due to medical bills and other costs related to the incident that may be alleviated through compensation ordered by a civil court in a successfully litigated claim.
