Tragic bus accident injures 9 children in North Carolina

On Behalf of | Nov 7, 2019 | Car Accidents |

Thousands of people — many of them children — rely on buses every day to get where they need to go. Unfortunately, not all bus drivers take their responsibility for the safety of others as seriously as they should.

A North Carolina bus driver is now charged with failure to yield after he caused a crash that injured nine children. The driver, a 50-year-old male, was transporting 25 students from Rogers Elementary School near Williamston when the accident occurred.

According to investigators, the bus driver was trying to make a turn off the highway. He misjudged his time, turned too short, and his bus hit another vehicle. The bus driver and two people in the other car were also injured.

Whether you’re a passenger on a school bus or you’re in another car that ends up in a wreck with one, you may have significant injuries — and you have every reason to seek compensation. However, suing over a school bus is a little different than other types of car accident claims. Since a school is a government entity, one of the most important questions you need to answer before you proceed is, “What is the proper procedure to move forward with a lawsuit?”

Schools are generally considered public entities and part of the government, so there are some unique rules and time limits that have to be followed if you intend to file a lawsuit over your damages. If you fail to do so, you can lose your opportunity forever. Find out more about your legal rights today in consultations with an attorney.
