Many North Carolina drivers are not aware of how dangerous some of their everyday driving behaviors are. They disregard personal safety, traffic laws, rules and signs to get to where they are going. As regular and widespread as this behavior is, it does increase the risk of car accidents and injuries for all motorists. Reckless driving is dangerous and preventable.
Slip-and-fall accidents are common in North Carolina. Even though they are more likely to occur at home, it is not unusual for people to injure themselves on some else's property. Stores, resorts, hotels, schools and workplaces are common places these accidents can occur outside of the home. Property owners have a duty to take reasonable measures to keep their properties safe for the public. However, situations can arise when they do not take their responsibilities seriously that can result in fall accidents and injuries.
North Carolina Department of Transportation estimates that 20 bicyclists are killed each year in the state while riding their bicycle. About 960 bicycles are involved in accidents with other motorists. Watch for Me NC is a campaign designed to bring awareness to bicycles and pedestrians on the road. The NCDOT sponsors the campaign. With so many cyclists getting back out on the road, it is important to know when accidents are more likely to occur.
An accident can change your life in a second, leaving you reeling with pain, large medical bills and lost wages. Many people are surprised to find that insurance companies - even their own insurer - are unwilling to fully compensate them for the injuries they've sustained.
Last week a Durham police officer and his K-9 were both injured in a hit-and-run crash on NC Highway 98, according to reports. The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. when the officer was traveling eastbound in his marked patrol car on Holloway Street near Clayton Road when a truck struck the back end of his car sending it crashing off the right-hand side of the road, through a fence and into a tree. An eyewitness to the accident said she ran down to where the patrol car hit the tree to see if he was alright.
