7 injured in multiple motorcycle accident

A multi-vehicle accident that occurred on March 22 in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 64 in North Carolina reportedly involved as many as 15 motorcycles. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred before 12 p.m. between Edgemont Road and Lizard Lick Road near Wendell.

The 15 motorcycles were reported to be a part of a group of charity riders that totaled around 60 motorcycles. A motorcyclist who was in the group stated that a vehicle traveling in front of them threw a pink beach ball at them, causing the brakes from a number of bikes to lock up. This conclusion was not supported by authorities who stated that the ball in the boat may have just been blown into the road by the wind. Seven riders were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries that were reported to be non-life-threatening. One motorcyclist suffered injuries that were considered to be serious. The injuries included broken bones, a head injury and road rash, according to the same motorcyclist.

Motorcyclists are always at serious risk of becoming injured if they are involved in a crash. This is due to their limited protection against the major forces involved in a motorcycle accident. If it is determined that a driver's negligence caused the accident, those who suffered injuries may be eligible to file a personal injury lawsuit against that driver.

In this particular case, the driver that owned the ball may be responsible for the crash. Once it is determined who the ball belonged to, the injured motorcyclists may be able to file the lawsuit against them for either throwing the ball at them or for failing to put the ball in a safe place. By filing the lawsuit, those who were injured may be able to seek compensation for medical costs.
