AAA Carolinas lists most dangerous counties for driving

North Carolina residents might be interested to hear that AAA Carolinas has released its annual list of the most dangerous counties in North Carolina for driving. The report is broken down into three primary categories, one of which is for collisions, one for motorcycles and one for tractor-trailers.

According to the AAA Carolinas Communications Director, Pitt, New Hanover, Person, Watauga and Union counties were the most dangerous counties for driving in 2012. The director stated that it is difficult to pinpoint just what exactly it is about these counties that make them more susceptible to car accidents since there are several factors involved in all the counties.

For example, New Hanover reportedly has a lot of tourists, which factors into its high accident rate. Pitt, New Hanover and Watauga are all college towns, so less experienced drivers can play a factor. The mountains are definitely considered a factor in Watauga. Furthermore, the most dangerous county for motorcycle accidents in North Carolina is Graham County, which is home to the ‘Tail of the Dragon,” a scenic mountain road that is popular among motorcyclists. The counties that had the most tractor-trailer accidents were Hertford, Washington, Sampson, Bladen and Anson.

The deadliest county for driving in North Carolina was reportedly Mecklenberg, which had the highest number of fatalities. It is also one of the more densely populated metro areas. The CEO of AAA Carolinas stated that counties that have consistently high rankings for being one of the most dangerous counties for driving should use the information as a wake-up call for traffic enforcement and road design.

Personal injury lawyers may help people who are injured in car accidents seek compensation for their injuries. They may help them prepare claims concerning their injuries as well as help them secure a settlement for them.
