A woman wanted by the North Carolina state highway patrol was arrested Sept. 16 by U.S. Marshalls in Pilot Mountain. The 27-year-old woman was wanted for felony hit and run causing serious bodily injury resulting from an accident on Aug. 28 off N.C. Highway 89 near Mt. Airy.

The woman is accused of injuring a motorcyclist and a passenger when her vehicle, traveling east, crossed the center line and struck the motorcycle. The collision caused the motorcycle to roll over, ejecting both driver and passenger. The victims were transported to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem and treated there.

The woman was identified as the driver because she had left her vehicle at the scene of the accident. The victims’ current condition is unknown.

Road accidents cause a high number of injuries and fatalities each year. Those involved in motorcycle accidents are especially vulnerable to injuries resulting from accidents. Medical expenses related to broken bones, permanent disability and long term care can be expensive and ongoing. Road rash, concussion and soreness are also common. Although the victim of a motorcycle accident may not initially experience symptoms of injuries, it is generally a good idea to be checked by a medical professional at a hospital emergency department or by a personal physician. Sometimes symptoms appear much later. A medical exam can help to identify any potential injuries so they can be treated promptly.

Those involved in motorcycle accidents should consult a lawyer to discuss the legal implications. An attorney who is experienced in this area of law may answer questions and provide helpful information to help victims make informed decisions regarding their health and legal options.
