Truck driver distracted by porn kills officer

On Behalf of | Nov 6, 2013 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents |

People in North Carolina might be alarmed after they hear about the case of a truck driver in Arizona who ended up killing a police officer after he was distracted by porn on his cell phone while he was driving. The 33-year-old truck driver allegedly put his wallet over his cell phone when the crash occurred to attempt to hide his cell phone from his trucking company’s dash camera.

The man ran into three police cars while traveling 65 miles per hour. He had the cruise control on his truck activated at the time the fatal trucking accident occurred. The police officer who died as a result of the incident had been in the process of writing a report when he was struck. Although fellow officers removed the windshield and dash of the officer’s vehicle and even used the Jaws of Life tool from one of the fire trucks on the scene in an attempt to free him, the officer was still pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

The three police cars and two fire department trucks were damaged in the accident. Cell phone records revealed that the truck driving had been looking at female escort sites, porn sites, Facebook and YouTube when the accident occurred. His Facebook records show that he had been viewing scantily clad women in provocative positions on the site. Consequently, he has been charged with a variety of offenses, including second-degree murder, endangerment and criminal damage. He pleaded not guilty to all of his charges.

The deceased police officer’s family members might choose to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the truck driver who hit and killed their family member. Personal injury attorneys could have the skills needed to assist family members in waging a lawsuit and negotiating a settlement for it.
