Fayetteville drivers may have heard about a recent fatal car crash in nearby Lenoir County. The crash involved a car, a pickup and a dump truck. Police have been working to reconstruct the crash.
The accident occurred on Highway 258 near John Green Smith Road. The mid-morning crash began when a 27-year-old man from Kinston was driving north and crossed the center line into the southbound lane. Troopers report that the car then hit a dump truck head on. The dump truck was towing a bulldozer, and when it was hit, the truck and its cargo jackknifed into the the northbound lane. A third vehicle, a pickup truck in the northbound lane, then found itself under the back of the dump truck with the car under the front of the dump truck.
It took rescue crews 90 minutes to free the 20-year-old driver of the pickup truck from his disabled vehicle. Reports indicate that he suffered a broken leg. The driver of the car did not survive his injuries. Police report that they do not yet know why the driver crossed the center line.
Car accidents are often complicated events requiring persistent investigation and patience. Motor vehicle accidents that involve drinking and driving or potentially dangerous road conditions are often even more complicated. When the victim of an accident suffers injury or death, pursuing legal action may be an option. A personal injury attorney may be able to assist clients in obtaining police reports pursuant to blood alcohol tests and accident reconstruction. An attorney may also be able to determine whether or not negligence played a role in the crash. In that case, an attorney may then help a client to address their needs with the court.
