An accident involving three vehicles left three individuals injured in Onslow County by the Sneads Ferry Bridge on Sept. 12. One of the vehicles reportedly went up in flames, and the driver was pulled to safety. The accident caused a closure of the bridge for about two hours as emergency responders worked at the scene.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident took place on Highway 172. A 1996 Chevrolet SUV driven by a 54-year-old man was traveling south when it veered left and collided head-on with a southbound Ford driven by a 43-year-old Swansboro woman. The Ford then reportedly hit a guard rail, bounced off and crashed into a Dodge Ram 1500 driven by a 35-year-old Sneads Ferry man.
Both the Ford and the Chevrolet were totaled in the crash, while the Dodge sustained damages estimated at about $1,500. The driver of the Chevrolet was removed from his burning vehicle and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery for his injuries. The other two drivers were treated at Onslow Memorial Hospital. Serious car accidents such as this one often result in major injuries for the people involved.
In an accident involving multiple vehicles, a police investigation might reveal the liable drivers. Injured victims might choose to file a personal injury claim once the driver responsible for their injuries has been identified and if evidence shows that the driver’s negligence caused the accident. In such cases, the victims might be compensated for medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost income due to missing work in relation to the accident.
