A 19-year-old man was killed and four other people were seriously injured in a two-car accident that took place in Raleigh on Dec. 24. According to a police statement, the deceased victim’s 18-year-old sister was behind the wheel when she lost control and crossed over a grass median. A minor was also in the car with the siblings.
The fatal accident took place while the teens were traveling southbound along Capital Boulevard in a 2002 GMC SUV. After losing control of her vehicle, the 18-year-old driver entered the northbound lanes near Simms Creek Road and struck a 2008 Ford pickup truck. As a result of the crash, the 43-year-old driver of the pickup truck and his passenger, a juvenile, had to be treated at the hospital.
The 19-year-old man in the SUV was declared dead at the scene of the crash while the driver and the other passenger were treated for injuries at the hospital. By the next day, the two minors were both listed in critical condition. The driver of the pickup truck was listed in fair condition, and the driver of the SUV was listed in good condition. According to an initial investigation, dangerous road conditions related to the weather may have played a role in the accident.
A person who has been injured in this type of accident may have a case for filing a personal injury lawsuit. If the accident was caused by a driver’s reckless actions, an attorney might be able to help the victim gather evidence to establish the liability of the driver at fault. A parent or legal guardian of a child who was injured in a car accident may file a claim on the child’s behalf.
