North Carolina car crash results in tragedy for family of teen

On Behalf of | Jul 16, 2015 | Car Accidents |

On a recent Saturday night, a car ride went very wrong for a group of travelers in North Carolina. The evening’s ride turned into a car crash that resulted in the tragic loss of a young person’s life. The accident took place in an area south of Charlotte.

The incident involved a single vehicle that was carrying seven occupants. According to reports, at some point, the driver of the vehicle failed to maintain control of steering and veered off the road. Authorities say that the driver then over-corrected and careened across the center line of traffic. The vehicle went off the other side of the road and crashed into a tree.

A 16-year-old girl who was traveling as a passenger in the vehicle was killed in the tragic accident. Another occupant was flown to an area hospital for emergency care. Five others were also injured in the crash an transported to medical facilities nearby for treatment. There has not been any reported updates on their conditions.

The vehicle in this case was completely demolished on impact. Authorities say that alcohol is a leading factor in the case. When a family loses a child in a car crash that has been caused by another motorist in North Carolina, the law protects their right to file a legal claim against the at-fault party in a civil court. Losing a child is obviously a traumatic experience, but it might comfort those involved to know that they can seek compensation for damages that would at least help them cover funeral expenses and other costs related to the accident.
