There may be nothing worse in life than to suffer the death of one’s child. Understandably, families who face such a tragedy are grief-stricken in their loss. In a recent tragedy, a family suffered the loss of a loved one in the aftermath of a tragic motor vehicle accident in North Carolina.
A mother, father and two young sons — one age 3 and the other an 18-month-old toddler — were riding in a pickup truck. Another vehicle is said to have crashed into their truck. The impact of the collision caused the pickup to veer off the road and strike a nearby tree.
Sadly, the family’s youngest member, the 18-month-old boy, did not survive his injuries in the crash. The person behind the wheel of the other vehicle reportedly fled the scene. Later, however, a surveillance camera at a gas station in the area showed a woman exiting a convenience store and getting into a vehicle. Police have issued a statement saying that they believe the woman in the surveillance film might be connected to the incident.
An alert has been issued to the public, stating that anyone with information on the identification of the woman in the film or details about the accident should contact the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Though no amount of compensation can ever alleviate the grief suffered in the loss of a loved one, parents in similar circumstances might be somewhat comforted to know that they can file a legal claim in a civil court on behalf of their deceased child. When a motorist deemed negligent has been identified in the aftermath of an accident, those who have sustained damages may pursue legal action against that individual.
