Witness shocked at North Carolina fatal accident wreckage

On Behalf of | Nov 18, 2015 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents |

A woman taking a morning stroll along a North Carolina road never expected to witness a tragedy that day. She said she’s never before witnessed anything so devastating in all her life. The wreckage she saw was debris from a fatal accident that involved two vehicles.

It was just after 7:30 a.m. when the recent tragic collision occurred. A 49-year-old man, who was driving a pickup truck at the time, reportedly drifted his vehicle across the center line of traffic. In doing so, the pickup allegedly crashed into another vehicle on the road.

It was estimated that each vehicle was traveling at approximately 45 mph when the collision took place, thus eliminating excessive speed as a potential factor in determining a cause. However, authorities currently await results from alcohol and drug tests administered to the driver of the pickup truck. Sadly, the 34-year-old driver of the vehicle that was struck was pronounced dead at the crash site.

Responding crews had to remove the top of the man’s vehicle in order to extricate him from the wreckage. When a North Carolina motorist dies through the negligent act of another, a wrongful death claim sometimes results. An immediate family member representing the deceased is authorized to file the claim in a civil court. Though the death of a loved one in a fatal accident is a profound and tragic event, it is often a comfort to grieving families to know that the law makes provisions that allow them to seek full recovery for damages on behalf of the decedent’s estate.
