Charges pending in North Carolina fatal car accident

| Dec 17, 2015 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Road awareness and driver alertness are equally crucial toward maintaining a safe roadway environment for all motorists. All it takes is for one North Carolina driver to become momentarily distracted behind the wheel for tragedy to strike when a fatal car accident occurs. Sadly, this seems to be what happened in a recent collision in Gaston County on Highway 321.

It was approximately 4 p.m. when the crash took place. Apparently, the driver of a pickup truck became distracted, looking at work crews who were reportedly cutting down trees in the vicinity. The driver allegedly failed to reduce speed when needed and crashed into the car in front of him.

There were two occupants in the car. One was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The other, however, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Although the apparently uninjured pickup truck driver has already been charged with failure to reduce speed, authorities say there are additional charges pending.

It is difficult to imagine the grief that is experienced in learning that a loved one has been killed in a fatal car accident. When driver negligence is to blame, family members may feel a strong desire to seek justice on behalf of the deceased. North Carolina law enables them to do this by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court. Those considering filing a claim are advised to seek legal counsel in the matter by contacting an experienced personal injury lawyer in the area.
