Two high school students were killed after the vehicle in which they were riding was hit by a vehicle that the North Carolina State Highway Patrol say crossed the center line. The accident occurred on N.C. Highway 47 at about 7:30 a.m.
The victims, a 17-year-old and 19-year-old, were pronounced dead at the accident scene. A trooper at the scene said that a 31-year-old man is facing charges for DWI, but there could be more charges added soon. The driver was allegedly under the influence of prescription medication.
The trooper said, “Currently he is only facing driving while impaired charges. Further charges are pending per consultation with the Davidson County District Attorney. We usually consult with the D.A., when fatalities are concerned, to give us time to get all the facts to present a case.”
The driver facing charges was taken to Winston-Salem’s Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and is said to be in good condition. The accident is still under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
