Good Samaritan car accident leaves 1 dead and 2 others injured

On Behalf of | Oct 16, 2017 | Car Accidents |

In a story that could make people think twice about helping those in need, news sources report that a car accident killed one and critically injured two others who were trying to help a man in need. The accident occurred in Raleigh, North Carolina, at about 7:30 p.m., on Monday.

News reports say that a man driving a Nissan stopped in the roadway because he was suffering a medical emergency. The Nissan’s passengers, two 16-year-old girls, exited the vehicle to try to render assistance. Another motorist, a 45-year-old Durham resident, stopped in front of the Nissan and left his vehicle to render aid.

While the three victims were standing near the driver’s side door of the Nissan, a Ford pickup approached the scene and stuck all three victims. One of the 16-year-old girls perished in the crash with first responders pronouncing her dead at the scene. The other teen and the 45-year-old man suffered critical injuries as a result of the collision. The driver of the Nissan who was experiencing the medical emergency did not suffer any injuries in the accident.

Reports indicate that the driver of the Ford truck did not slow down as he approached the scene. However, it should be noted that the Nissan did not have any exterior lights on at the time of the accident. The driver of the Ford was not charged and was not injured in the accident.

In reports like these, it is difficult to say that one person is solely responsible for the car accident. However, the bereaved and the injured victims may benefit from talking with a lawyer to determine if grounds exist for a case. Hopefully, this tragic accident will not prevent other citizens from attempting to help people in need. Perhaps a safer approach is all that is required to prevent tragedies like this one.
