Man dies after North Carolina traffic accident

On Behalf of | Dec 16, 2013 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

A 53-year-old man died as the result of an accident in North Carolina Dec. 12. A 39-year-old man was driving a Jeep around 5:30 p.m. when he allegedly drove into the path of an SUV. The Jeep flipped over, and several passengers were injured as a result. The injured passengers were transported to the local hospital. The types of injuries suffered by those involved in the fatal accident and their current conditions are unknown.

The man who died as a result of his injuries was riding in the front passenger seat of the Jeep. No information was available to determine what type of injuries the man incurred in the accident. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by police officers. He was charged with driving while impaired and death by a motor vehicle. The reports do not state if the driver sustained injuries in the crash.

Personnel from emergency services closed the road for an undisclosed amount of time in order to clean up the area. Police officers did not reveal how they determined that the driver was under the influence when the vehicle crashed. They might have instructed the man to take a field sobriety test to make the determination. A $30,000 secured bond is necessary in order for the Jeep driver to be released from jail. He is currently being held in custody, and a court hearing has already been scheduled.

An accident attorney may provide advice to family members of the man who died regarding their rights under North Carolina laws. An attorney could help them determine the types of action they might take, including a wrongful death lawsuit. The passengers who were injured in the lawsuit might also seek the advice of an attorney to discuss the possibility of a civil lawsuit to seek financial compensation for their injuries.
