The North Carolina military community is mourning the recent loss of one of its own. A command sergeant major from Fort Bragg was an accident victim in a recent motorcycle crash. The 47-year-old veteran was the father of two and also leaves behind two grandchildren.
Officers responded to the call at approximately 5:30 p.m. on a recent Saturday. The military serviceman was traveling on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the northbound lane, when another vehicle in the southbound lane apparently careened across the center median and crashed into his bike. A lieutenant colonel stated that his death has been devastating to the entire battalion. He said that the deceased was a true professional and a wonderful friend and will be greatly missed by all those who had the honor of knowing him.
A roadside memorial with several American flags was raised near the crash site. The 26-year-old man who has been deemed responsible for the crash now faces several charges. He was processed through the county detention center and is accused of death by motor vehicle, driving left of center and reckless driving.
A family who has suffered the loss of an accident victim in North Carolina is able to seek justice in court by filing a wrongful death claim. When another motorist has been deemed responsible for a collision, the court can issue a monetary judgment against that person. In such circumstances, the person filing the claim would receive compensation for damages and could use those monies to help pay funeral costs or cover other expenses associated with the accident.
